Tungna is finely carved wooden simple musical instrument comes from its goatskin cover. It has commonly four strings that were initially made of the gut of sheep but now replaced by nylon. The number of strings may even extend to six as well. The vibrations create a warm atmosphere of communal bonhomie while playing. The origin of Tungna spans across the hills of northern India, Nepal and Bhutan and also traced to Tibet. Murchunga is one of the oldest musical instruments in the world; hence it is of course a traditional Nepalese musical instrument. Nepali word “Murchunga” is a kind of jaw harp available in a small lyre-shape that is placed between the teeth and played. Since Murchunga is played by mouth (teeth), it is naturally a tiny musical instrument and available in different metal such as brass, bronze, white metal, cupper, silver etc. Few different shapes and sizes are available. This commonly used medium size Murchunga is made of brass with iron string.
