White Tara 20

Quick Overview

White Tara signifies the goddess of universal compassion, long life, wisdom and freedom. ''One who saves'' represents her name, White Tara and it is believed that her motherly love and desire saves people from any kind of suffering. She has seven eyes - a third eye located in the usual place on the forehead, and others on the soles of her feet and hands. These extra eyes are said to help her look upon all beings in all realms of existence with the same clear sight and endless compassion. The statue is made by skilled artisans in Nepal using the lost wax method. This traditional method requires many steps and much fine hand-work to produce each individual statue. First of all, the model is carved from wax which reflects the finished statue. Then, the wax model is coated with a refractory consisting of clay mixed with rice fiber that will lead to dry and harden in the sun. After three coats of the mixture of clay is applied, the model is placed over a charcoal fire to melt the wax and each pattern made with this method is used to produce a single statue. Then melted metal is poured into each pattern wait until it is well set and to be kept into water to wash the clay. Several hours is spent in polishing and finishing (details are accentuate with tiny chisels, gold-plating, hand painting, precious stones setting etc) to make a very high quality statue. Since each face on this statue is hand painted there can be slight variations each statue.
